Introduction Many job applicants have the knowledge, skills,
attitude, experience and competencies to undertake a job that
is on offer. However, they are not gifted in the art of demonstrating
this to selection panels. This one-day event assists job applicants
of any age and experience in preparing for the selection process
and ensuring that they convey their skills to the panel.
Target Participants The course is suitable for anybody who is
interested is getting the job that they want and are qualified
for! Employed persons considering a new job, unemployed persons
and those completing school/university and soon to be attending
job interviews etc. are all welcome on the course. Participants
must be able to understand spoken and written English and be able
to converse in English.
Pre-Course Before the course, registered attendees will
be invited to complete an online psychometric assessment. Many
local and international companies now request their job applicants
to complete an online ability or personality assessment. Doing
this before the PsyAsia course will provide attendees with this
crucial experience. Attendees are also asked to bring their current
CV with them and one or two recent job advertisements that they
have seen in newspapers or on the internet and would be interested
in applying for.
The Course Day Learn about techniques and processes that
employers use in candidate selection:
Interview
CV
References
Psychometric Tests
Assessment Centres
Biographical Data
Attendees will learn about what
each of the above is, how it is used in selection and how they
can prepare for them. Attendees will be provided with opportunities
to be involved in and practice their preparation and responses
for each of the above in relation to the job advert that they
selected prior to the course. There will be an opportunity to
complete a paper-based psychometric assessment in addition to
the internet-based one that was completed before the course. The
course is facilitated by an experienced organizational
psychologist who assists organizations in employee selection
using the above tools on a daily basis - who better to relay this
information and put the job candidate at ease?!
Take
Home All attendees will take home a course manual
with guidelines for success in aspects of the selection process.
Additionally, they will receive a certificate of attendance and
their full psychometric assessment reports.
Aims,
Objectives and Intent Some people think that employers
and those who assist them in the recruitment and selection process
use a system of some description that can be "beaten".
For example, some believe that personality assessments can be
answered in such a way that they are more likely to get the job.
They are obviously not aware of the scales built into the questionnaires
which detect styles of response such as this! We do not want to
help you to get a job that you are not qualified for or do not
have the aspiration for - you ultimately will not be happy and
your new employer certainly will not! For this course, we ask
you to consider only jobs that you are qualified to do and have
an interest in. We make the assumption that you have all of the
skills necessary and now need to convince your potential employer
of this fact. Many candidates simply do not come across well at
interview due to nerves or lack of selection experience. By taking
attendees through the tools that employers use in selection, not
only will you begin to have your mind put to rest when you go
through this process for real, you will also be more able to show
the selection panel your "real-self", skills and aptitude.
